Engineers are problem solvers.
Engineers are problem solvers.
- Engineers must be creative as they work to find solutions to problems that will make our lives easier.
- They also work in teams and communicate with each other to design and try out their solutions
Can your team build the longest paper chain possible in 25 minutes ?
Part 1: Building the Chain
Your objective is to build the longest paper chain using only 1 piece of 12 x 18 construction paper, 1 glue stick, and 1 pair of scissors!
In groups of 4, you will have 25 minutes to discuss your plan, build your chain, and record your results.
Keep in mind: You will want to come up with a plan before you start cutting and glueing. You will need to figure out how to work as a team. Everyone will need to help in order to be done in 25 minutes.
Discuss the following questions and post your team's anwsers on the Nureva Span Wall:
1) How will you be sure that your paper chain is the longest?
2) What possible problems could you come up with durning construction?
Part 2: Measurement
After building, you will measure your group’s chain in inches and then in centimeters.
Part 3: Documenting Your Results
Two members from each group will document their team's names, measurements (in in. & cm.), and record their team's answer to the planning question on the Nureva Span Wall.
At the end of the time, we will compare your chain to other groups chains to determine the winner.
