4th Grade Lesson 7-
"Baby it's CODE Inside!"
Hello 4th Graders! Today's Learning Target is...
I can develop programs that use sequences, loops, and triggered events.
I can use estimation and problem-solving to write code with directionality and sequencing.
I can use trigger, motion, and control blocks to create an animated digital story.
Today's app / program is: Code.org & Scratch Jr.
What is Code?
Code is a language that a machine, like a computer, car, or robot understands.
What is a Coder?
A coder is a person who codes or translates from one language to another. It can be from English to Morse code or English to Java Script.
What is Programming?
Programming and coding may seem to mean the same, but they are NOT. Programming is the act of entering code into a machine (or computer, or robot) so that it will execute the commands.

Over the next few weeks we will practice our coding and programming skills using visual blocks of code.

Station 2: Colby the Robot Mouse
I can use estimation and problem-solving to write code with directionality and sequencing.
For today's task you will explore coding and programming with Colby the Robot Mouse. Your team will develop and then program algorithms (directions) of sequences and simple loops (code) for him to execute (follow).
1. First, the engineer(s) will follow the blueprint to build the maze with the advice of their team.
3. Then, the programmer inputs the team's program into the robot.
|
2. Next, the encoder uses the coding cards to create an algorithm with the advice of their team.
4. Last, the recorder runs the program and if there are no bugs, records the code onto the recording sheet.

* Rules:
* The mouse must travel to each action square, and perform an action at that square before moving on.
* The mouse must pass under each tunnel.

Station 3: Coding with Scratch Jr.
on the iPad
I can use trigger, motion, and control blocks to create an animated digital story.
Hour of Code events are taking place all over the world...
...And Park Avenue School is on the map!!!!!
