Hello 5th Graders! Today's Learning Target is...
I can design with negative space by removing material from another shape using the Subtract Shapes tool in
Makers Empire (3D modeling software).
I can design a 3D model that meets multiple constraints.

Creating Holes
1. Use 3D Shapes in 2D Flat Shapes:
The first way to create a hole in another shape is to use a 3D shape to create a hole in a 2D or basic flat shape. This method is good for creating holes in circles, squares, rectangles, and triangles.
Step By Step Photo Tutorial
Click on the Subtract Shapes tool to preview the hole. Recenter it if you need to. Then click on the Check Mark it you want to keep it or the Redo Arrow if you want to start over,

That's it! Now you have a flat shape with a hole in it.
|
Experiment with different 2D and 3D shapes to see what kind new designs you can create.

2. For Any Shape:
Another way to create a hole or negative space in a shape uses all 2D shapes. This method has a few more steps, but it works with ANY 2D or irregular shape.
