Last week we practiced solving the 1st stage of the Rubik's Cube and also learned that a cube is a 3- dimensional shape that has 6 faces, 8 vertices, and 12 edges.
Today we will continue examining the cube from an engineering and mathematical perspective. We will be adding two new stations to our rotations and break up into 4 stations today.

Directions:
1)With your team observe the 2x2 Rubik's Cube. Discuss the following with your team:
#How many faces does the cube have?
# How many cublets does it have?
# What colors are on the cube?
# How many cublets of each color are there?
2) Each person will need 8 nets of a cube. Examine the Rubik's Cube and discuss with your team how to color in the squares on your net. Talk about where the colors should go on the nets and how many of each color is needed.. Then color in the squares on your nets.
3) Next cut out each cube template and fold on the solid lines to create 8 cubes. Use glue sticks on the tabs to create the cubes.
4) Attach strings with tape diagonally on pairs of cubes in the upper and lower layers of the cube. (See photo)
5) Lastly, put the layers on top of each other and twist the cube to tangle the strings creating a working 2x2 Rubik's Cube model.
