3rd Grade Lesson 7-
"Baby it's CODE Inside!"
Hello 3rd Graders! Today's Learning Target is...
I can develop programs that use sequences and loops.
I can use estimation and problem-solving to write code with directionality and sequencing.
I can encode and decode numbers and words into binary code.
Today's app / program is: Code.org & Scratch Jr.
What is Coding?
Coding is telling the computer exactly what to do ...by giving it step by step directions to follow.
What is the Hour of Code?
Hour of Code is an opportunity for every student to try computer science for one hour. It's a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code" and show that anyone can learn the basics to be a maker, a creator, or an innovator.

Station 1: Programming with Blocks
I can develop programs that use sequences and loops.
For today's task you will learn the basics of programming with block coding by working through and solving puzzles.
To begin:
1. Click on your teacher's name below to log into Code.org.
2. Click on your name, then click on your secrete picture to sign in.
3. Follow the directions at the top of the screen to write code and solve the puzzles using block code.

Station 2: Coding Binary Bracelets
I can encode words into Binary code.
For today's task you will design a binary code bracelet with your initials.
1. Fill out the design planning sheet using binary code for each initial in your name.
2. Choose 3 colors of beads: yelloe to represent 0s, green to represent 1s, and a different color to separate each letter.
3. Slide the beads in the correct order onto a chenille stem (pipe cleaner), then bend it into a bracelet and twist the ends to keep the beads from falling off.

Station 3: Coding with Kodable
on the iPad
I can use motion blocks to create a programmed sequence.
Hour of Code events are taking place all over the world...
...And Park Avenue School is on the map!!!!!
